Being a mom of 4 boys has prepared me in many ways to photograph children! It is my goal that each child leaves a shoot and has had FUN! Believe it or not, it can really be a fun process! With young children I react to them instead of asking them to stand still and smile. What comes out of that is a forced, fake photograph that doesn’t capture anything about the child. The same is true with teens. I spend time building rapport and engaging them so that they feel relaxed and we get authentic, genuine photos. I also have a lot of photography experience with special needs children, especially those with autism. I have some tactics and approaches that have really been effective but I am also flexible to figure out what works best for each child.
